i just got finished making this cake. it was my first time ever using fondant, and i'm pretty happy with the way it came out. i made my own marshmallow fondant about a week ago, and it's been in the fridge since. i only used fondant for the bun sections, the cheese, and the tomato. all of the rest was done with buttercream frosting. (oh, and i added a little buttercream to insides of the tomato.)
for the beef patty i used a #16 tip, and then smooshed the stars down with my finger using cornstarch. i made sure not to press down too hard, so that it had a minced beef kinda look. i only had a little brown food colouring left (d'oh), so i melted some andes chocolate mints and added that to the mixture. the frosting ended up tasting sooo good!
Great job with this. I've been supposed to try marshmallow fondant for quite a long time, but haven't got around to it yet, good to hear it keeps for so long. The minced meat looks very real and the "cheddar" is totally authentic. I rather like the lettuce too even though it's a bit darker than real lettuce.
IMO the tomatoes look a bit weird with the pink spots in them. I'd have probably just made the edges of them visible. The bun part looks rather dark to me, but maybe it's a wholewheat bun or something. I think it might look better if the bottom was rounder. But that's just nitpicking.
